  The Huntington Independent School District ISD is a small 3-A rural district nestled within 226 square miles of Angelina County that provides educational facilities and resources to meet the needs of more than 1749 students on five campuses. Vision Statement: "Achieving Tomorrow's Excellence Today". Mission Statement: "The mission statement of the Huntington Independent School District is to instill a desire for excellence in preparing its students to become citizens who are able to make informed and intellegent choices between alternatives they will encounter during their lifetime. • PINEYWOODS COMMUNITY ACADEMY

  
  

  Pineywoods Academy is a college preparatory charter school with an average student to teacher ratio of 16:1. Pineywoods students at all grade levels are provided a rigorous program of curriculum and instruction designed to help students meet the challenges of the 21st century. Instruction is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), which is the foundational curriculum for all publically-funded schools in the state of Texas. PCA students take the STAAR test, which was developed by the state of Texas to measure mastery of the TEKS. Above and beyond the basic curriculum, Pineywoods emphasizes a college-bound culture that promotes strong literacy skills, excellence in math and science, and an awareness of both the social and cultural challenges of the world and an understanding of how the lessons of history are relevant for today. To facilitate this cultural perspective, PCA students have the unique opportunity to participate in the Core Knowledge curriculum. Core Knowledge is based on the work of Dr. E.D. Hirsch, a noted educator who developed the Core Knowledge framework as a way to ensure that today's youth have a cultural perspective and knowledge of the important lessons of history and culture so that they will be better prepared to become problem solvers in the new millennium.

  Zavalla Independent School District is located near Sam Rayburn Lake in deep East Texas. It is situated 10 miles south of Huntington, 21 miles south of Lufkin and 19 miles north of Colmesneil. The mission of Zavalla Independent School District is to promote academic achievement in a safe and secure environment while promoting a positive school and community relationship.
