  Jewell School is the heart and center of the Jewell community; a community deeply invested in its pioneer and logging roots. A fiercely strong and independent spirit was born of those roots and continues forward to this day. The majority of the people who fill the halls of our school carry with them a character and disposition that is uniquely rural. Our community is ever changing and growing with an eye toward the future.

  Knappa School District No. 4 is located in Knappa, Oregon. Knappa is a small, rural (unincorporated) community, approximately 12 miles east of Astoria. Knappa School District is nestled in the middle of vast forest land in the northwest portion of Oregon, near the Columbia River. We have one elementary school (Hilda Lahti School K-8), and one high school (Knappa High School), which serve the unincorporated communities of Knappa, Svensen, Burnside, and Brownsmead. There are 470 students enrolled in the Knappa School District this year. Our district is widely recognized for its many innovative programs and its progressive approach in implementing Oregon's educational reform legislation. We take great pride in the high quality, innovation, and creative teaching and learning that occurs in our schools. Our goal is to strive for continual academic improvement and to promote safe, welcoming, and nurturing environments in our schools where all students can learn. In short, students are the first priority and student success is our primary mission.

  We strive to provide a caring and quality instructional environment for our students 鈥� and our efforts are paying off. Seaside School District has proven to be a strong educational leader in the State of Oregon. Our students鈥� academic achievement is among the best in the State. We are pleased with our students鈥� success and attribute this record of excellence to several key factors. In 1992, we created the District School Improvement Steering Committee. This group of teachers and administrators from each building and grade level is responsible for coordinating school improvement among all five schools. For their work, the Steering Committee earned the Oregon School Boards Association鈥檚 Salute to Success award and the Oregon Business Council鈥檚 Employer鈥檚 for Educational Excellence award. Our number one commitment is to the children of today and the adults that they will become in the future. Our teachers work together to provide extensive academic programs and practical experiences that prepare our students for a rapidly changing world. As our society becomes more complex, we can best prepare our students through cultivating their love of learning, developing their skills in finding and using relevant information, and facilitating critical and flexible thinking.
