The Carlisle Community School District, located just southeast of Des Moines, is a rapidly-growing district that includes the cities of Carlisle, Hartford, Avon Lake, and a portion of southeast Des Moines. The district enrolls approximately 2,000 students in four schools. Carlisle High School is a class 3-A high school serving students in grades 9-12. Carlisle Middle School, which was built in 2007, serves grades 6-8. Hartford Upper Elementary, the only school not located within Carlisle itself, serves students in grades 4 and 5. Carlisle Elementary School, which is immediately adjacent to the high school and the district office, serves students from pre-kindergarten to grade 3.
