About Rock Creek

Description provided by the district or community — not part of the NCES dataset.

Rock Creek U.S.D. 323 is located 15 miles from Manhattan, Kansas and Kansas State University. The District covers 230 square miles spanning the entire length of Pottawatomie County. The District is mostly rural and has two communities within its boundaries. The population of the District is largely comprised of ranchers, farmers, and agricultural-related employees, as well as a large number of patrons employed outside the school district in Manhattan, Ft. Riley, and the surrounding area. St. George Elementary School Elementary buildings, pre-kindergarten through sixth grade, are located in both St. George (355 students) and Westmoreland (160 students). In 1991, two small high schools were consolidated into one 7-12 school, Rock Creek Jr./Sr. High School (currently 380 students). This process not only decreased operating costs in the District but greatly improved educational opportunities for students. Westmoreland Elementary School Rock Creek High School is a 3-A school that provides a full range of activities and athletics, including volleyball, football, basketball, wrestling, track, baseball, softball, forensics, debate, music and cross country. Rock Creek USD 323 employs over 70 full and part-time teachers. Approximately 55% of the teaching staff have a masters degree or higher. Numerous teacher aides and support staff are also part of the education team.
