Our commitment to the children of Knox County spans twelve campuses. Enrollment for the 2010-2011 is over 4,500 students. We have seven elementary schools with grades K-6, two middle schools with grades 7-8, two high schools with 9-12 enrollment, and two alternative education schools 鈥� Knox Appalachian School and the Learning Academy. The employees of the Knox County Public Schools strive to open students鈥� minds to a world of possibilities. We foster student progress and encourage family members and community to be full partners in ensuring success for all children. This system has a strong focus on curriculum and instruction with our decisions focused on teaching and learning. Our board of education meets monthly and begins each session by recognizing and rewarding student success. Our teachers are committed to using researched-based strategies in order for all students to reach proficiency. Our district supports an equitable learning environment for all students. To eliminate barriers to learning, all schools address equity through researched-based strategies outlined in their Comprehensive School Improvement Plans. Each year, data is studied from a variety of assessments in order to identify groups of students who may have gaps in learning. Students who need additional help are identified and receive appropriate services through the Knox Intervention System (KIS). Targets for student progress are determined; goals are set and routinely monitored. Supplementary technology programs are utilized for student assessment, instruction, and intervention. All students have access to quality curriculum and instruction.
