Welcome to the Bangor School Department and the City of Bangor, a community that is proud to have developed a formula for the high achievement of its schools: an involved and supportive community, highly skilled educators, and hard-working students.The consistent mission of the schools outlined in the 2010-2020 strategic plan Academic Excellence for All has brought state and national recognition for efficiency and excellence, including two National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence (Bangor High School 2002, James F. Doughty School 2010). As a system, we remain most proud of our designation as an Outperforming District by Standard & Poor's, an achievement reflecting the department's belief that all children can achieve at high levels despite demographic challenges they may face. Our ten schools are committed to accelerating the learning of all children, beginning with an intense emphasis on early literacy and numeracy. Generations of Bangor students have grown under our care and put their talents to use upon graduation, becoming successful and valued members of their communities. We are proud of our students and their accomplishments, and it is with this pride in our tradition as an outstanding school system that I join the Bangor School Committee in welcoming you to our schools.
