Beginning with Children Foundation聽(BwCF) co-founded CPCS in 2000 with a group of parents from Fort Greene, Brooklyn, who were interested in replicating the聽Beginning with Children Charter School聽in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that was started eight years earlier.The school started with grades K-1 on Clermont Avenue, eventually outgrowing its space and co-locating two grades at PS 9 for two years before moving to shared space at PS 270 in 2004.CPCS recently amended its charter to allow it to grow to serve grades 6-8. Its new middle school, currently consisting of grades 5 - 7, is located nearby at PS 256 at 114 Kosciusko St. in Brooklyn. In 2012-13, the school will reach full enrollment of 450 students in K-8.
