The Allegheny Intermediate Unit, also known as the AIU, is part of Pennsylvania's public education system and is one of 29 Intermediate Units created in 1970 by the Pennsylvania State General Assembly. We provide specialized educational services to Allegheny County's 42 suburban school districts and five vocational/technical schools. Located just a few miles from the city of Pittsburgh in the scenic Waterfront commercial development in 91制片stead, Pennsylvania, the AIU employs more than 1,800 employees at 436 sites and operates 10 family centers and three schools for exceptional children. With nearly 140 programs for infants, young children, students, and adults, the AIU receives funding through federal, state, county, and private grants.
