About Alcoa

Description provided by the district or community — not part of the NCES dataset.

The Alcoa City Schools consist of three schools located near Springbrook Park and the Duck Pond. All of the Alcoa City Schools are located within walking distance of Springbrook Park. This tree covered park features the Duck Pond, Springbrook Pool, picnic areas, a covered pavilion for group use, playgrounds, open fields for play, a lighted softball field, tennis courts, and four miles of lighted walking paths. This park is used by students for school outings and study groups. We are very proud of the academic success of our students and the quality of education in all three schools. Alcoa City Schools consistently ranks at or near the top of the state in student achievement scores determined by each spring’s TCAP testing. In May of 2009, the Middle School was recognized by the State’s Commissioner for Education as one of the top performing schools in the state for value-added scores. The High School has scored above the state average for ACT scores for the last five years. Alcoa City School System is listed as “In Good Standing” according to No Child Left Behind standards and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Technology is one of the many tools teachers use to help students achieve. Each classroom has access to the Internet and cable television and is equipped with a multi-media projection system. Several fixed computer labs and mobile, wireless, laptop labs are also available to students. Students are trained at all schools to provide technical support to faculty and staff. A full function television studio at Alcoa High School and satellite studios at Alcoa Elementary and Middle Schools provide students with the opportunity to produce content for Tornado TV (Charter Cable Channel 3). Alcoa High School has won twelve state football championships, including the last seven in a row, and two state basketball championships. The High School currently has teams in golf, track, cross-country, softball, baseball, volleyball, football, golf, soccer, tennis, wrestling, and swimming.
