Mt. Vernon ISD comprises almost all of Franklin County, in rural northeast Texas. The school is located in Mt. Vernon, Texas, which is on Interstate 30, 100 miles east of Dallas and 80 miles west of Texarkana. Franklin County consists of approximately 5,000 residents, about half of which live in the town of Mt. Vernon. The county is one of the smallest in Texas. Mt. Vernon ISD is the only school district in the county and covers almost all the county. There are four schools in the district all located on one campus.
