About Greenwood School District

Description provided by the district or community — not part of the NCES dataset.

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY: We believe that the public school exists for the primary purpose of fulfilling the educational needs of the people and community it serves. We believe that it is of utmost importance that every person becomes aware of her/his responsibility in our democratic society; therefore, the individual and her/his social and educational needs become the primary concern of the school. We believe in order to assume a share of the responsibility; each person must develop powers of constructive and critical thinking as well as those of self-expression. The individual must become self reliant and self-disciplined. We believe that in a secondary school the emphasis should be on general education with opportunities to begin training in areas of special interest. We believe that recognition of individual differences and proper guidance is essential to achieve our purposes. We believe that it is necessary to provide adequate flexibility in our school program so that both subject matter and manner of instruction may be adapted to the changing needs of our students. We believe, however, that the success of the school is measured not so much in terms of subject matter mastered and of skills acquired, but rather by the number of students who can successfully meet the problems encountered and live more satisfying lives.
