About Hamburg Area SD

Description provided by the district or community — not part of the NCES dataset.

The Hamburg Area School District, located in northern Berks County, is rich in the fine traditions of its Pennsylvania German heritage. The region is a scenic blend of rolling hills, fertile farmlands, and small communities. The district covers 103 square miles and is the largest, geographically, of the county's 18 public school districts. The district encompasses the Boroughs of Hamburg, Strausstown and Shoemakersville, and the Townships of Perry, Windsor, Tilden, Upper Bern and Upper Tulpehocken. The district's four buildings include the high school for students in grades 9-12, the middle school, which opened its doors at the start of the 1996-1997 school term to students in grades 6-8, and two buildings for our elementary students: Tilden Elementary Center, which opened its doors for students in grades K-5 on August 25, 2008, and Perry Elementary for students in grades K-5. The district employs 186 full-time and 2 part-time professional staff; 15 administrative staff, and 85 full-time and 30 part-time support staff.
