The Vernon Independent School District offers a broad range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities for students. The district has a current enrollment of 2200 students and is classified as a 3A school by the University Scholastic League. The district has three elementary schools with McCord elementary serving students in grades PK 鈥� 1, Central Elementary serving students in grades 2 鈥� 3, and Shive Elementary serving students in grades 4 鈥� 5. The district has two campuses at the secondary level, the Middle School (built in 1998), serves grades 6 鈥� 8 and Vernon High School serves students in grades 9 鈥� 12. In addition to the regular campuses Vernon ISD also provides educational services to students at the North Texas State Hospital.
