The Vernon Independent School District offers a broad range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities for students. The district has a current enrollment of 2200 students and is classified as a 3A school by the University Scholastic League. The district has three elementary schools with McCord elementary serving students in grades PK – 1, Central Elementary serving students in grades 2 – 3, and Shive Elementary serving students in grades 4 – 5. The district has two campuses at the secondary level, the Middle School (built in 1998), serves grades 6 – 8 and Vernon High School serves students in grades 9 – 12. In addition to the regular campuses Vernon ISD also provides educational services to students at the North Texas State Hospital. Mission Statement: Vernon Independent School District is committed to the development of a school system in which all students can learn in a safe and orderly climate and one which all stakeholders can be proud of. We will be an exemplary education community respecting and valuing students, parents, community members, and district employees.
