The Northwest Allen County School Corporation was formed in 1965 by virtue of the consolidation of Eel River-Perry Consolidated School and Lake Township School. The school corporation is comprised of three townships of Allen County: Eel River, Perry, and Lake. Eight schools now serve the school corporation. These schools and the year of construction are as follows: Carroll High School, 1967; Carroll Middle School, 1987; Arcola School, 1921;Huntertown School, 1922; Perry Hill School, 1972; Oak View School, 1992; Hickory Center School, 1998; Maple Creek Middle School, 2000; Cedar Canyon Elementary, 2005.  Eel River Elementary wil open in Fall, 2009. The schools are governed by a five-member non-partisan school board. Since the 1965 official organization of the district, there have only been a total of 27 board members serve a position. Members are elected at the time of the May primary in alternate years with one representative from each of the townships and two at-large representatives. The Board employs a superintendent of schools as its chief executive officer to administer its operational policies.
